Vendor Photography Guide: How to Take Great Photos for Your Application
We are so excited that you are applying to join our market! We use your photos to get a true sense of your curated vintage treasures and unique handcrafted goods, and to envision how your booth will look at the event. High-quality, clear photos not only help us ensure your items are a perfect fit for our market, but they also give us the opportunity to feature and celebrate your work across our social media platforms!
Because we want to showcase your hard work in the best possible light, we’ve put together this quick, friendly guide to help you capture images that will make your application shine.
Step-by-Step Photography Tips
1. Clear the Clutter & Keep it Simple
-
Do: Use a clean backdrop like a solid white wall, neutral surface, or natural wood. You are welcome to use a few simple, complementary props to style the scene and show your product's lifestyle or scale!
-
Don't: Let the props take over the image. If you sell jewelry, a single beautiful crystal or a simple dish adds a lovely touch, but surrounding the piece with dozens of loose stones, flowers, and candles will crowd the frame.
-
Why: A balanced layout tells a beautiful story about your brand and is focused directly on the item you are selling.
2. Find the Right Lighting
-
Do: Shoot near a large window during the day or outside in the shade on a bright day.
-
Don't: Use your camera's direct flash, which causes harsh shadows, deep glares on shiny surfaces, and washes out the object.
-
Why: Soft, natural daylight beautifully reveals the true colors, details, and honest condition of the piece.
3. Capture Multiple Angles
-
The Full View: Show us the entire item from the front so we can see its full shape, form, and scale.
-
The Fine Details: Zoom in close if necessary to show intricate details, stitching, makers' marks, or unique patina that shows off your treasure.
-
The Big Picture (Booth Layout): Don't forget your booth photo! Include a wide, clean shot of your past booth setup or a neat mock-up layout on a dining table or floor space at home to show us your vision. Note: We just want to see your display style; we do not need to see you in the photo.
4. Hold Steady for Crisp Details
-
Do: Tap your phone screen on the main subject to lock focus before snapping the picture.
-
Don't: Submit dark, grainy, or pixelated images.
Technical Checklist for Wix Uploads
-
File Format: Original JPEG or PNG image files.
-
File Size: Under 15MB per image.
-
Original Files Only: Please avoid uploading screenshots. Taking a screenshot compresses the image quality, making it appear blurry, and often adds unintentional black borders or phone text to the top and bottom.
-
Skip Filters & Watermarks: Please skip heavy Instagram filters, digital borders, or overlay watermark text. We want to see your items exactly as they look in real life!
